Sheba is a beautiful 10 year old Border Collie who is in an Oldies Club foster home in St Helens, Merseyside, waiting for someone to offer her a new permanent home. Sheba is fine with her foster carer’s young dogs and at times she tries to join in when they are playing. She is fine when passing other dogs on walks and accepts them if they come up to greet her, so long as they are quiet and not too boisterous. Her foster carer thinks that Sheba could live with a medium/large dog that is calm and steady but also thinks she would be very happy as an only dog in a home where she will get lots of attention and affection from people.

We were told that Sheba has lived with up to 13 cats. She shows little interest when she meets a cat while out. If carefully introduced, Sheba should be fine to live with cats again. Sheba wouldn’t be happy to live with young children. She dislikes noise, so any children in her new home would need to be sensible older ones (11 years +).

Sheba is an active lady who loves playing with a ball in the garden. If you throw the ball she brings it back and asks for another throw. She loves playing retrieve with a tennis ball on walks too. Also, she likes playing with her toys. She will bring you a toy and gently drop it in your lap asking you to throw it for her. She is very good when you want to finish playing. She enjoys munching a chew or dental stick in the evenings.

We were told that Sheba doesn’t like loud noises such as thunder and fireworks. An active, early retired person (or couple) who is happy to give her the walks and playtime she needs and enjoys. A family with older sensible teenagers might also be suitable. She would not be happy in a household where there is noise or younger children. She needs somewhere calm and quiet where she will have company a lot of the time, and lots of cuddles.

Sheba is vaccinated, wormed and flea-treated and has been microchipped. She started her season at the end of June and our vet has said that it is safest to wait 3 months until she is neutered – around the end of September. Oldies Club will cover the cost of the spay. Sheba is currently around 4 kilos overweight and the vet would like her to lose a few kilos before surgery. She is on a weight control diet and is having regular exercise to steadily reduce her weight. Sheba is in very good health for her age. Her teeth, ears and eyes are fine. She has no lumps and her heart and lungs are fine. She arrived with matted clumps of fur which have been clipped off and she just needs regular brushing to keep her looking beautiful. This is easy to do and not time consuming.
