Rebecca – 5 year old female Border Collie

Beautiful Rebecca is a gorgeous 5 year old female Border Collie who requires some confidence building. Rebecca has come from a farm environment but was not suitable for working stock due to how anxious she is. She was previously picked up as a stray by another rescue organisation who felt that a rural home with limited exposure to things would benefit her however it has actually caused more problems by allowing her fear to manifest. We have worked extensively on Rebecca and have actually seen a fair bit of progress in a very small space of time. She no longer hides from us and actively seeks us out for fuss. She stands up on her back legs and wags her tail when she sees us and gives us a beautiful little happy dance. She really enjoys being stroked; she quietly sits and soaks it all up and loves getting treats for being so brave.

We are unable to ascertain what kind of life poor Rebecca has had but appears she has been in the wars. She only has one ear and where we thought she originally had a tail it actually turned out to be a ton of urine soaked dreadlocks. We carefully clipped them away and tidied up her bottom and discovered a bunny, cotton ball tail. It is now affectionately known as her “wiggle nub” because it never stops going.

Rebecca has come from an environment with multiple dogs and has never lived as part of a normal home; because of this she will require housetraining (however she is very clean overnight in her kennel) and consideration will need to be given when introducing her into a new home environment. She will not be familiar with household noises or the hustle and bustle of everyday life but adjusts well to change and has accepted things here very well.

Rebecca has also never been walked and is not accustom yet to wearing a harness or walking in one. We have begun training her and overall she’s doing really well with it but new adopters need to be aware it could be some time before she walks like a normal dog on the lead and a great deal of time before she’s able to be successfully let off the lead. Care will need to be taken teaching her recall with a long line etc. She will need a secure, escape proof harness as she is currently a flight risk and may find the big wide world a little overwhelming. We would recommend starting lead walking in a garden or secure area and building from there. Rebecca takes a lot of confidence from other dogs and enjoys their company. She could live happily with another canine and would benefit highly from it.

Rebecca is essentially a complete blank canvas. She has a beautiful nature, is very smart and is keen to learn but needs a calm, understanding and patient owner to work with her and teach her the ways of a home. Rebecca has never lived with children before so because of this we will only accept applications from homes with resident children age 10+. Younger children, erratic sudden movements and loud unnecessary noises would cause her too much stress at this time and we do not feel this would be in her best interests for progression. Rebecca is very sweet and it is high time for her to learn how to be a dog and be loved for the wonderful individual that she is. She requires basic training, housebreaking, lead training and socialising. She would benefit highly from beginner training classes.

Rebecca is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Please send us a message to enquire about our adoption process. We require an APPLICATION and HOMECHECK BEFORE we can arrange for applicants to meet Rebecca on an APPOINTMENT ONLY basis. Minimum adoption donation applied.
