Meet the handsome Sandy, a 2 year old male Border Collie. This sweet boy had not seen much of the world before coming to the centre, he can be reactive towards dogs and is nervous of new situations and people. He generally walks nicely on lead, however if he becomes anxious of something he will stop and refuse to move and sometimes try and back out of his harness.
He has become better with this but this training will need to continue with his new owners. The staff have found he thrives on routine, and prefers to do the same routes when out on walks. Sandy is cautious around new people and he will require you to come and meet him multiple times before you can take him home. He may not initially come up to interact with you, but do not be disheartened by this as with patience, space and some treats he will start to show his loving side.
Sandy is not for a first time dog owner, he will need somebody who is experience in working with nervous dogs to help him gain confidence and show him the world is not such a scary place. Once he is in his forever home, it may take him a few months to settle. He is going to need a quiet home where there are not people constantly coming and going.
He is very kennel stressed and when left alone he spins a lot, he is going to need somebody around most of the time especially whilst he is settling in. A home with a good sized garden is essential as it is unlikely he will be confident to go out on walks at first. As with any dog which come from kennels, we cannot say whether Sandy is house trained, however we will provide you with tips and advice on how to overcome this should it be a problem.
Sandy is looking for a quiet household with no cats or dogs, any children present must be at least 16 years and older due to his nervous nature.
We are looking for a foster home with a view to adopting initially, as Sandy will need support from the centre team & national behaviour team in the early stages of moving into a new home environment. For this reason we can only accept applications within 1 hour maximum travelling distance from the centre.
Please note we are looking for a garden not a yard for this beautiful boy.
